Brake Upgrade for 1999 F-350 Super Duty
First of all, hello everyone. I am new to this message board and this is my first posting. I have a 1999 F-350 Crew Cab 4x4 Powerstroke. I am looking to upgrade the brakes on my truck as it seems to go thru pads and rotors fairly quickly. I do a lot of in town driving and the rotors seem to warp. It brakes fine other than the annoying shudder. Does anyone know of some other rotors (cross-drilled or slotted) that will control the warpage issues. I have looked everywhere for some cross-drilled rotors with no luck. If this has already been covered sorry.
Thanks
Ken

I had a '99PSD that had the same problem. The dealer cut the rotors twice and still needed to put new rotors and pads on. They told me that a few SD PSD had this problem. I posted this problem on another sites and everyone got all over me about how I drive. What I have noticed is that if I need to brake hard and if I hit a bump in the road it feels like I loss my rear brakes and the front takes all the load. People have also told me that it is the anti-lock, I have driven other cars with A/L brakes and you can feel the pedal pulasating. The SD does not pulsate, it feels like it just releases. I now have a '01 PSD and knock on wood no warping yet. As to aftermarket rotors let me know...it still might be a good idea.

Funny you should mention that about feeling like you lost the brakes when braking hard and hitting a bump. I felt the same thing numerous times on my 99. Its a scary feeling especially with someone stopped in front of you. I ditched the 99 for an 02 and so far have not had that same problem.

The 1999 F-350 is not the only one with the problem. I have put 2 sets of rotor (all four wheels) on my 2000 F-250. The only thing I could relate the problem to is that I didn't have trailer brakes on my 16' trailer. Was trying to stop a trailer with a tractor and bush hog with the truck brakes. My dealer said that for some reason they have had several superdutys in for the same problem, but, could tell me if there were any aftermarket rotors that they knew of that worked any better. Now have my 3rd set of rotors on the truck, with no problems so far. Hopefully, won't have anymore problems.
