Question Exhaust/4.6 litre,catback, headers

My first post! I own a red xl 4.6 2004 reg. cab.Great truck for the woods.I am wondering what to put on the truck for more power and torque gains.I did put a K and N air filter already.I am used to working on my j code 302 68 mustang without fuel injection.I know there are cat back systems with duels or single pipes exiting at the side or rear.I thought about headers and h pipe and straight duels also. Are the power gains with a cat back system without headers comparable to the headers, duels, h-pipe setup.Money is a factor.I am partial to flowmaster mufflers, especially on my fastback.I need words of wisdom on this topic and product names, types of products etc.what is out there on the market and is one product favorable over others in terms of price, sound, performance etc. Best bang for your buck. What is the scoop?Your opinions are appreciated, thanks guys, happy motoring,Alan

I have a similar F-150. I have a cat back dual system, Flowmaster series 70 dual inlet dual outlets exiting under the rear bumber. I haven't seen any shorty headers on the market for the 04 4.6ltr yet. It "feels" like a small hp gain but I have not had it put on a dyno for any measurements. The sound is terrific when under accelleration. And the rumble is low at cruising speed. I am also thinking about reprogramming the chip when it becomes available. Check out my galleries and see my Dual photos.

Hi Fred, great looking truck! My truck is bright red with factory fog lites and cd player.I bought a set of tech tube step bars, stainless.Truck also came with a factory ford bedliner.Your exhaust system is new from the cat conv. back, right?Do you have part #'s for it and where did you get those cool chrome tips?I am in the dead of winter in Nova Scotia, wish I was in Georgia! Let me know about dyno results, thank's, Alan

Howdy Alan, Thanks I really enjoy my F-150. The Bright Red is a nice color man. I bet it sure shows up in the parking lot against all the snow! I don't care for the built in to the bumber style lights but that is only my personnal thing. I had a Rhino liner done, I have had facory bed liners (Dodge) and they are good but I like the added protection of the sprayed in bed liner.

I had the duals done from the cats back by a local exhaust specialty shop. The part nubers I don't have as they had the items in stock, the muffler is a series 70 Flowmaster with dual 2.5" inlets and dual 2.5" outlets and an internal "H" pipe, and they do their own mandrel bending of the exhaust pipes. As for the tips the shop calls them "Corvette Style" chrome tips and if I might say they do add a nice touch to the system. I also have a set on my 94 Firebird with a Flowmaster 50 series. I don't know if I;ll ever do the dyno bit but if I do I'll post the reults.

We reached a high of 62 degrees today and I hope this means we are done with the below freezing weather till next winter. Hope you folks up in Nova Scotia start warming soon so you can enjoy your ride in nice weather. Ya'll take care...

Sounds like better weather lies ahead Fred.I hope your right. Are your flowmaster series 70 loud enough to know they are flowmasters when you put some weight on the pedal?I want a muffler loud enough to know the presence of a finely tuned V8,but not overkill.I will check my local performance shop to see if they may have the Vette style tips. They look much better than alot of the getups i've seen around town.Your truck from the pics looks more like a 4x4 than a 4x2.
Yea, I'm really getting to like the bright red, especially when it's clean.Thank's Fred for the info and hope to talk at you soon, Regards, Alan
