Cool interesting thought

has anyone ever considered swapping a diesel engine into a 53-56 F100? either the 6.9/7.3 or the cummings 5.9?

I would think it would twist the frame into a pretzel.

I like the idea rbohm. But what I was thinking about was, say, a cummins 4bta with a zf 5-speed. A lighter package for the springs on the old f100 compared to the navistar or cummins 6bt. No computers, no sensors...................28 mpg!!! Wouldn't be a 1/4 mile speed demon but it would be a nice cruiser. Not to mention it would get folks attention when you rolled through a parking lot full of people.............you know, the sound coming from under the hood...

It will pull a UPS truck. I have accsess to them here because farmers use them as well engines for pumping. From what I read everyday on the net is that the boys in the north east and WA and CA (the big city) are buying them out of those big delivery box vans you see everyday running around the city. Delivery and bread companies sell or auction off the entire truck if its old enough or has too many miles on them. I've seen the whole truck go on ebay for about three grand. some Ford chassis cabs and delivery vans come with the cummins but I'm not sure what trans they come with. It doesn't matter though because all of them will bolt to the zf. I've seen pictures of them in Jeeps and early Ford Broncos........
