Exclamation 3.0L to 4.0L

i have decided to opt for the 4.0L instead of the 5.0L because of gas milage. so my question is has any one swapped a 3.0L to 4.0L in a ranger? its got a 5speed tranny so a auto is the plan if my tranny dosent fit. if so how long did it take and how much $$. and if any one has done a 5.0L ?(still in the back of my head)

its a 96 ranger ext cab
with 69000 miles on her(yea i know low milage have plans on doing this after 100k)

You will have 80-90 hours into a 302 Carbed swap, and 160-180 hours into an EFI swap. 40-50 hours for a 4.0L swap.

With a 302 you can expect 22-26 MPG.

I wouldn't recommend any swap for a DD, as you never know what will go wrong, if this is the first motor you have ever pinned, add 10 hours to the above.

Well, since you are going to be advise (by me) to grab a 4.0l donor truck, you will have the 4.0L tranny of your choice at your disposal. So, whatever you get will fit. A 4.0 tranny bolts in....heck, the sheetmetal is the same, of course....just the engine bits are rearranged between engines.

You can not match a tranny with a different engine than what is attached to it. No 2.3L tranny fits a v-engine, nor will the 3.0 or 4.0 swap around.

If you wanted a 5.0 swap, try rps. An Exploder swap (97-02) would work possibly with slightly more fuss than the 97 or 98 and later Rangers, I believe.

Gas mileage for a 4.0 is not much better than a 5.0L. Freshen up a 4.0L with better cam, valves, port/polish, then you get much better efficiency.

As for cost, no answer will be great because YOU are doing the shopping. It all depends on you and the cost of the donor you choose.
