Question Scenic Canadian Railroad?

Years ago i remembered seeing something about a scenic railroad that went thru the the western part of canada, thru rugged mountains and such. Can anyone enlighten me on this railroad?I do not believe it was a commercial railroad.I have been wanting to go on a train vacation for a long time, and this canadian railway sticks in my mind.
Thanks,DARYL

Try these sites.

http://www.bcreservation.com/railroad.html

or

http://www.rockymountaineer.com

I haven't been on the rail trip, but I've been in the area (I live about an hour or two away) and the scenery is spectacular. I've heard nothing but good things about the rail tour.

I knew a couple that went on, do not remember which tour. Said it was magnificent.

This pair did cruses and all types of travel. That trip was the best of all………..in their opinion.

It's too bad the Via Canadian doesn't come through Calgary anymore.

Instead, people have to go through Deadmonton & then Spectacular Jasper Ab.

Wow,i didnt realize there were so many. The one that sticks in my mind, it seems it was the oldest running railway or something.I saw it on the Discovery channel or history channel,it might even be steam powered,i saw this about ten yrs ago, so details are few.Canadian-Pacific maybe?

You are now talking about the train that goes up the BC coast.
From West Van to Whister or someplace

Edit:
The Royal Hudson.

Thanks

Mil1ion: You're thinking the Royal Hudson.
I think that's what it's called. I've never ridden it, but I think it goes from West Van to (or maybe past) Whistler. Maybe as far as Pemberton.

Yes, the Via (Canadian) starts at either Montreal or even further east.

At Winnipeg it starts its trek toward Edmonton, Alberta to Jasper and down towards Vancouver beside the Yellowhead Highway.

The RockyMountaineer was born when CPR decided they couldn't go through Calgary anymore.
Personally,I think the Provincial Government had a lot to do with the route change.

Going to Van via the Canadian is very scenic BUT,
It is even more spectacular going from Calgary to Vancouver on the Rocky Mountaineer

Another good one is the Agawa Canyon train on the former Algoma Central Railway from Sault Ste Marie, Ontario to Hearst (or somewhere in between) but I haven't been on it yet.
