390 in a 53 ford fit problem???

I am dropping a 390 in on my 53 ford with a zigs mus 11 set up and seem to be into the fire wall about 3 inches anyway I look at it. I have the front of the oil pan over the rack to about 1 inch and cant move the engine tword the front of the truck due to the lower oil pan hitting the back of the rear of the cross.I just dont get it.A 460 has 1 1/2 inch to spare on the fire wall and my 390 is 3 inches deep. I have plenty of pics so if you need to see let me know. Please help!!!! DJ

Probably need a different oil pan configuration in order to get the clearances you need. Check out vendors such as Summit, Jegs, etc. or a local performance engine company.

Hi

Thats called a rear sump oil pan you need to change to a front sump oil pan, along with changing the oil pan you will need the oil pump pickup tube for the front sump pan.

I have no idea where you can get the pan perhaps you could ask that question on the FE forum.

A front sump pan would not work with mustang 2 suspension. The engine would need to sit so far forward to clear the sump from the steering rack. A rear sump is the only way to do it. I think if you notch the front part of the rear sump you would have enough room, if an aftermarket pan wont solve the problem that is. Good luck.
