390 To 302 Or Rebuild? Mpg?

HI, looking for helpfull information and ideas. I have a 390 in my 53. It came with the truck when I bought it. It has run well, I've put on a new edelbrock carb. I have PS, no air. Haveing the power is nice but not really needed. This is my daily driver. The cheepest Gas now is about $203 a gallon. ???? What to do, would I better to go to a 302 or have the 390 rebulit with in mind of better MPG. All thoughts and ideas would be of great help.??? Thanks, Bob

Swap in a new 5.0 with all the EFI stuff, that should exceed the MPG of the 390. The best MPG you could probably get from your 390 will be 15-18 in ideal conditions.

Mike thanks for your help. I'm not that informed on motors. What years are you replying to and EFI, is that fuel injection? Also what kind of MPG do you think I could get? Thanks again, Bob

Sorry Bob, but it's a truck and has a V8. Any expectations of city driving over 15-18 mpg's will probably require you to buy newer and smaller.

buddy of mine put a 5.0HO from a mustang in his 86 F-150 4x4, and averages 18-20 on the highway with six inch lift and 33x12.50's....it's EFI, and usually runs pretty well for him...

HEY MONTANAFORD, where is Kalispell? , I have two sons in Boseman. I'd move up there yesterday If I could! :-)
If I could get 15 MPG that would be nice. Thanks for the info. Bob
