Hi Gene, welcome to FTE!
From the VIN number, it appears your Ford is a Canadian built truck. The Vin and data codes are different from the U.S. built.
If your truck is still original, it has....................
Dana 60 rear axle, with 4.56 to 1 gear ratio
Dana 44-4F front axle, with 4.55 to 1 gear ratio
Dana 24 2-speed transfer case
I remember seeing a site that had de-code info for the Canadian Ford and Mercury trucks. I'll see if I can find it and post the link.

Welcome, townwagon.
Could it be that there are some numbers and letters before those you listed as the VIN? I guess you've found the rating plate on the inside of the glove box door. The first 3-4 characters in the Serial Number are the Series (mine has F10, yours should say F250), the next is the engine (C is the 292 V-8, 2 bbl), the next number is the year, but should be 0 for 1960, the next letter is the assembly plant (E is Mahwah, wherever the heck that is), and the last 5 numbers are the unit number. The rating plate has lots of other information as to axle, trans, date, GVW, horsepower, etc.
On edit: once again, Kenny is on the ball - he beat me by seconds with a much more accurate answer. Attaboy!

Here's the site........

Doesn't seem to match those numbers either.
Lol, James I didn't even think of that. I think you're right and there are some missing numbers.

Thanks for all the above info, I looked on the glovebox door and here are the numbers...F250COE25660 then the next line reads
WB COLOR HP RPM DSO
118 J 146 3800 4132
Would anyone know if a 70 302 will bolt up to the 292 bell housing? Also, I have been told the 4x4 is a napco conversion, is there anyway to check this? Thanks again. Gene

Gene,
Here is your VIN de-coded......
F25...................3/4 ton Conventional cab
C.......................292 V-8
0.......................1960 Model year
E.......................Mahwah, New Jersey Assembly plant
25660...............Sequential production number
WB 118.............118" Wheel base
Color J...............Monte Carlo Red
146 Certified net Horsepower @ 3,800 RPM.
DSO 4132..........District Special Order (which means your truck was ordered special. It may have been a fleet vehicle.
You forgot to post your Date code, Model code, axle code, and transmission code. Post them, and we'll de-code them as well.
Factory 4x4 would be determined by the model code. Model code "F28", and "F29" would be F-250 4X4. Napco, Coleman, and M&H conversions, usually had another rating plate in addition to yours.
A 302 will not bolt up to a 292 bell housing.

Ok, I found the other info on the tag. Model F253, Date 11A, Trans F, Axle 04B, Max GVW 7400. After talking to the previous owner he said he pulled a 390 V8 out of this truck to put into another one he had. The bell hsg in the truck has a hydralic clutch, with this limited info what engine could I put back in the truck? Thanks, Gene

To err is human, to really screw the pooch takes a 'Puter.
Do you know or can you find out if FoMoCo built 4x4's w/ the 223/262 as the power plant?

Gene,
I just realized from another post, that I posted a mistake here.
Models F253, F254, and F255 are factory 4x4 for 1960.
The F258, and F259, are for 1959 factory 4x4.
I'm sorry about that.
Thanks to Barry for the correct info!
