9" disk brakes 5 on 5.5 lugs

I have to ask I have searched for a long time and cant come up with a straight answer any where. I have a 9" with drum brake that has 5 on 5.5 lug pattern. What do I look for in a boneyard to get disk brakes. I found a 87 and 89 Mark VII axles. I also found an '82 Chrysler Imperial. But they don't have the 5.5 lugs. I also read front Chevy axles bracket and calipers will fork on the back with ford calipers. I have search ford, Chevy, Chrysler, 2WD, 4WD and I cant get a straight answer.
Nick

I have seen brackets being sld on ebay that allow you to intall rear disk brakes on a ford 9 inch rear axle. They do not require different axles and the brackets just mount to the axle retaining bolts. it appears to be a striaght forward swap. I think the caddy caliper is the common piece used in the swap.

Try this link. http://users.ev1.net/~gbuzek/index.htm

nice site. But it still doesn't tell me what to use to keep the 5 on 5.5 lug pattern. It mentions that the Mark VII parts were used. As well as the Versailles. But I know the Mark VII is 5 on 4.5 How do I turn that into 5 on 5.5, I don't even know what lug pattern the Versailles are. That and I don't know where one is. I did find 2 Mark VIIs with clean looking brakes. I Cadillacs are every where. But I don't know the combination to keep my lug pattern. Same thing with the Chevy parts. I just seem to find lots of write up to get 5 on 4.5" lug pattern.
Not much help on the subject, so I appreciate yalls input.
Thanks
Nick

The rotors are redrilled for the truck lug pattern. The Versailles is the car pattern of 5 on 4 1/2. The Vesailles axle is used as a direct axle swap for the early mustangs. You can not take the factory disk brakes off of a disk brake axle and bolt them on a non disk brake axke. Factory disk brake axles have different axles than drum brake set ups. Thats why you need the disk brake conversion brackets that use the mixed match rotors that need redrilled rotors and the Cadillac calipers. The Cadillac callipers have the proper or correct e-brake hook up or it makes it easier.

I have not done this swap. I have read it and seen the parts for sale on ebay in the past. I did a qiuck search on ebay and I could not find the brackets. I will search around for the correct link that explains this in detail.

A machine shop can redrill the rotors for you but you still need the conversion brackets to perform this swap.

I guess thats what was throwing me off, I thought I read some people were using them. Perhaps I assumed it.
Thanks for putting up with my lack of axle know how.
If you happen to remember of any 5 on 5.5 rotor please let me know. Also there were some D60 that were 5 lug. Do you know if any of them may have been disk with 5.5" lugs? I guess if fab work is necessary Ill go with the Dodge Imperial rear disk brackets or go this route.
Thanks again
Nick

I was reading that link I posted. It looks like they are using 2 WD front rotors. It says Ford rotors. But I dont know of any rear rotors for fords with 5.5 pattern. Did ford use 5.5 lug pattern rotors on the front that looked like that.? Does that look right or did I miss something. $99 disk brakes would be great.

I didn't pay that much attention to the link. I have to leave for a while and I will look at it again when I get back.

I've heard of people using the ford dana 44 rotors, ttb or SA, both are the same.

This is what I plan on doing when I go to discs on my truck.

Do you think those are the rotors he is using? I didnt think about front D44 rotors. Those have to be the ones he is using. Thanks thats great. Actually I am going to pick up a HP D44 in the moring. I was going to use those disks to replace my D44 drums. Its coming off a FS bronco. I am putting them on my EB.

well I started my rear disk brake swap on my '74 9". I decided to use some chevy caliper bracket. I drilled all the mount holes to 15/32 and opened the center hole .100" to allow the sealed bearing to go through. I need to order these retainer brackets from currie $15. I pulled one of my '01 dodge rotors off and it will fit around the 9" axle shaft flange, it has the right bolt patter and the center fit great.
I am using this guys write up to go by. I plan on trying the cadi calipers so I can have e-brake. I am not sure they wioll fit. I read the only difference is the price.
