Question Positive battery cable

On my 1960 the positive (red) battery cable is hook up to a bolt on the firewall.... The negative goes to a small box with wires coming out of it. Is this correct? On my Monte Carlo the positive goes to the starter and alternator... Im confused.

On a ford the relay, or switch, is on the firewall. On chevy the relay is in the starter.

On my trucks the starter solenoid is on the inner fender, and that is what the positive battery lead connects to. The negative cable goes under one of the bolts that attaches the battery box to the firewall. It sounds to me like your red cable is not the positive.

If you're running a flathead and the truck is original, the positive is your ground, thus it's what they call a positive ground system. Today all modern cars and trucks are the opposite, negative ground. Ford was the last to covert to neg ground, in 1956. I would put a ground cable from the block to frame and put that positive cable to the frame to help in better starting. On Flatheads, clean grounds are a top priority.

Like dangus said, the positive goes to the starter solenoid on the inner fender nearly under the battery box. The negative goes to a bolt on the firewall behind the battery.

It doesn't matter the engine. If the trucks original, it's positive ground.

I screwed up, sorry....... I did not read your post correctly. Your vehicle is a neg ground. For some reason I thought it was a earlier truck. I guess I need better glasses or something.
