To improve on the 300....The 351 would almost be an even swap.
Go with the 460 if you must.
Why not beef up your 300?

For all the work of the 351 swap, you really dont gain "that" much over the 300.

You'd need to change the tranny to get anything over a 302 to keep the tranny alive to long anyway.

The 300 to 302 swap is IMNSHO a step backwards. The 302 offers a little more performance, the300 offers greater towing and hauling ability. The 351, on the other hand, is way more engine than either the 300 or the 302. Your M5OD tranny will not live a long and happy life hooked up to a 351 and there's no way around the fact that the 351's PCM is going to be looking for an E4OD not a manual tranny, unless you get a 351 with manual tranny out of a wrecked 250 or 350. In that case you'd get the more desirable ZF tranny as well. However, there might be some electronics booby traps in that conversion, not sure.

OK, I have a similar question, I have an 88 F-250 with the 300 I-6 and the C6, I also own an 87 Mustang GT and am planning on swapping on Explorer Heads, Intake an Throttle body + an E-CAM for some more power out of it. Well, I do very little if ANY towing with my truck, has 4.11's in the rear-end though, because it used to belong to my grandfather who towed boats all the time with it. I'm considering putting my old HO heads, Intake and Cam from my Mustang on the Explorer 302 block, in essence, making a 302HO out of it except the Explorer block has Flat-Top pneumatic Pistons, so no NOS, S/C or Turbo, but that's really irrelevant. How much work is it to swap a 302HO into my truck and do I need to change the bell housing or anything or does it bolt right up to where the 300 I-6 is? Any suggestions, comments would be greatly appreciated.

Also, on a completely different note, what size bolts/plugs go where the fresh-air pipe goes into the head? mine are leaking like a ******* at the moment and makes using the heater a fumy experience, and of course, its ticking like a ******* too.
