Unhappy Power door locks- 1997 F150

My power door locks stopped working about a month ago. The passenger side stopped working all together, probably due to my rat-fink-kids up-down-up-down-up-down.

I have replaced the solenoid on the passenger side. Both locks now work when the switch is placed in the "lock position." I get no solenoid noise or response when either switch is placed in the "un-lock" position. I have tried to replace one switch with a brand-new switch and still have the same problem.

Any ideas out there?

The switch should go to a relay. If the relay went bad then replace it.

Hi jmfox3 and welcome to the forum

These dont use a relay like some other trucks.
I would check the ground for the lock system to make sure it is tight. It's behind the passenger's kick panel.
Did you replace the driver's or passenger's switch?
If the passenger's switch is bad neither side will work.
I've seen a few of these with broken wires in between the door and the body, in the rubber boot that all the wires to the door go through. You'll be looking for pink with green stripe and pink with yellow stripe wires.
Please let us know what you find.

Racerguy,

Thanks for the heads up.

I checked the grounds and they seem fine. Besides, both switches work in open so that leads me to believe the main grounds are okay.

The boots were pretty hard to view, I didn't see much, gave up and did the following:

I pulled my shop manual out and the pink wire with the green stripe (pink/green) is the one that opens the locks. I connected both driver and passenger side switches from pink/green to pink/green and still no open operation.

I checked the power wire to both motors and the wire gets power when the passenger side switch is placed in open or close. I used the passenger side ground at the switch to do this test.

This leads me to believe that maybe I did something to the swith on the ground side when I was troubleshooting earlier. I think I'll replace the passenger side switch and see what happens.

What do you think?

The problem ended up being the passenger side solenoid and the driver side switch. I'll end up replacing both solenoids and both switches. Still cheaper than taking it to a garage. Thanks for all the help.
