Talking Gasket Crazy

Well I just moved to Arizona and I am going to replace 3 gaskets soon. Valve cover, Pushrod cover, and Oil pan. I plan to do all three while I can use a lift. Are there any special tools that I might need to do this job? Any special procedures?
I will be removing the intake manifold to get to the valve cover so I know it wont hit the firewall when jacking up the engine a couple inches. Is there a gasket for the oil pump or any special things I should do to it? RTV on the gaskets or no? Ive read a lot that FORD is the place to get the proper gaskets....true? Sorry about the long post. Lost of questions.

Do not use any rtv on your intake manifold gasket. It will eventualy get in your engin and can damage it. As far as replacing your other gaskets you realy should pull the engin to change them the proper way. To change the valve cover gasket all you need is a extension, 3/8 ratchit and (im not sure on the size) socket. remove the pcv valve and oil cap, unbolt, and thats all. The pushrod gasket is unbolt the side bolts and pull the gasket. The bolts have a rubber type gasket on each bolt. One should replace these too when replacign that gasket. The oil pan gasket can get tricky. One would have to remove the dipstick tube first. After that Pull the pan. May be hard with a 4 wheel drive.

i wouldn't think you'd hafta pull the intake manifold to change the valve cover gasket...i'm gonna be doing my V/C gasket tomorrow...will post on how that goes...as for the oil pan gasket...lol...pull the motor all the way out...i tried doing one once w/out pullin motor....couldn't do it...at least not with the ease that you have of pulling the pan all the way off...and that was a 2wd...oil pan would only drop a couple inches before hitting crossmember...and tranny was in the way of dropping it all the way out...nothing for oil pump that i know of...unless u want to put in a new oil pump...but if you've got good oil pressure, ya shouldn't hafta do that...just keep your oil clean so it don't clog your pump....i've talked to people that use silicon sealant on their gaskets, or in place of gaskets...don't know if this is good or bad...i'll just be using the cork gaskets themselves...and as far as the dipstick goes.....when i dropped the oil pan on my 2wd, i never had any probs w/ my dipstick holder or dipstick...also...i get pretty much all my parts and stuff at Napa, but that's just my preference...as far as tools go...standard 3/8" drive ratchet, standard socket set probably from 3/8" on up to 9/16"...that should do it for ya...mebbe a couple different length extensions, as well...3", mebbe a 6" if you have one....i have several for many different applications....anyway, that's my thoughts on the whole deal....good luck....
