Chevy says 590lbft torque!
The other night I see a Chevy commercial of a 4x4 dually going up a mountain to pick up a co worker. I kind of told myself "look at that piece of *^%*" Then at the end of the commercial the announcer says "Available with the Duracrap Diesel now with 590 lbft of torque!" I guess the torque wars are on!!!! I wonder if the new 6.0....once the bugs are worked out will be able to smoke the Duramax. Chevy obviously upped their torque ratings to blow away Ford........now I can't wait to see what Ford/Navistar do....

You ought to go to the Ford vs. the competition forum. They have a lot of subjects like that. I just saw a Dodge commercial and it said the Cummins had 600 ft. lb. of torque. I have known about this for a while, but I just heard it on a commercial. The 6.0 PowerStroke is supposed to get bumped up to 360 HP and 620 lb. ft. of torque, or so the rumors say.

What's this Chevy outdoingFord in the diesel wars. Oh man I am going to buy a duramax immediately. No Way . I dont care if they up the horsepower 100 h.p. Duramax just another ill tempted fate to compete with ford. Just throw that duramax diesel in the junk pile with the rest of the chevy diesels with blown motors and busted fuel pumps. I have always said that Chevy should have gotten out of diesel trucks years ago. As one guytold me
bought a chevy diesel truck won't make that mistake again.
Bowties are for boys, Ford trucks are for real men.

Just had a friend turn one in a few months back because it kept crapping out on him and the dealer finally admitted they had no clue what the problem was other than it was the 6.0 ... Now he owns a dodge

Oh well he will be back in a ford when its all said and done. Give him time. He will be surprised by the resale value of his truck when he tries to sell it or trade it in. Tell him not to sell it or trade it after the seven year 70,000 mile warranty is up or he might have to keep it forever. No value after that. The payments never stop on that truck. Once you get done paying for the truck you are paying for repairs forever. Neverending. Ford guys have strayed off the beaten path before and have come back home. It will happen again. Just my thoughts. Thanks.

At sometime everything south of the engine will break with all the power and torque the engine are putting out. Its getting out of hand. + the longevity of the engine go down with higher power ratings. More power comes from higher cylinder pressures which increases wear and tear. I'll keep my lower powered truck.

I agree these HP/TRQ numbers are getting way out of hand. However, I've got to comment about the Chevy, and unforchanetly it's a positive comment.
We sold cows a few days ago and was pressed for time so we hired a guy to come haul for us. It was a rainy messy day, catch pen is at the bottom of a hill about a 1/4mile long (long sloping hill). This guy pulls up with a 2004 crewcab 3500 western hauler chevy duramax 4x4 pulling a 34' tripple axle cattle trailer. I'm thinking no way in world is he coming out of there loaded unless we pull him with a tractor. So we load all 35 head of cattle on the trailer and I start to pull the tractor in front of him to hook up. He laughs and tells me to get outta the way. Remember now he's at the bottom of a 1/4mile wet, grassy hill. I stand off to the side and watch, the truck literally stood up 3" (suppose the suspension was under a little bit of pressure) then started creeping forward never slipping a tire, up the hill he goes and not once does it slip a tire. I was totally impressed. Couple days later we got our weight ticket from the sale barn, 19,248 LBS of cattle. I wonder how much that 34' tripple axle trailer weighed? I'm sure he was WAY over weight for that rig but it sure pulled it up that wet grassy hill like you wouldn't believe.
The only chevy/GMC product my family owns sit's quietly behind a barn slowly returning to where it came from via iron oxide!
