Question 86 tempo

a freind of mine has an 86 tempo pos that dies if it goes under 2000rpm like at stop light. then takes awile for it to start up again. then when it does it smokes black smoke other than that it runs smooth no sounds or anything. any body got any ideas? maybe cloged fuel injectors?

Fuel pressure regulator... or leaking injector could cause richness(black smoke). Pull the codes first. IAC would let it die when trying to idle, and if clogged up, you can clean it.. If the MAP sensor goes, you will get a crazed idle that wanders up and down.
