i just picked up a good used e4od and want to put it in where my c6 is. anyone done this. i am looking at a compu shift controller to run transmission. i am lost on what to do for shift linkage. any tips would be appreciated.
I believe the E40D requires electronics to operate. A truck with the C 6 is all manual control excepting for the vacuum for shifting. That would like changing an idi and a stroker. Money, time and new vocab. Probably changing over to total manual trans would be better for you. good luck on either decision.

e40d's and c-6's are the same length and will bolt to the same transfer and use the same driveshaft. the only thing will be hookin up the computer which isnt too terrible, its been done around here
Sorry if I mistated something - I would love to have the c6, I'm on my 3rd e40d too, though I have 282,000 miles on my truck. In the back of my mind it's not a question of if my e40d makes it, but when it goes, will I just repair it, or replace it with the c6? It's getting costly. I,m half tempted to just sell her and get a truck with a c6 already in her.
the reason i am going to try it is i got the tranny from a freind out of a rolled truck and the transmission was just gone threw. i got it real cheap and was wondering if any one on this board had any experience with this swap. i did find a place in calif. that makes a manual valve body for the E4OD but i think that would get old real quick plus its $550.. the compu shift computer to run it is real cool sounding but its $1000. i have found a few other systems cheaper but you have to do alot more stuff like get old harness for trans out of truck and make a TPS sensor. and the other reason i am doing it is the truck was 2 wheel drive when i started on it. i put a f350 straight axel in it and have never finished trans it still 2 wd c-6. the E40D is a 4wd with transfer case. so i have some driveline shorting to do also.
dont know about going to a E4OD heard lots about E4OD to C6.im on my second E4OD and hope it will last another 170,000.im sure this can be done but you will need time, money and a good wiring diagram.you should get all of the electronic pieces of the rolled truck or just put it outback untill the swap is complete.if you have the trans and tranfer case you should have the front drive shaft also.just have it shortened or lengthed to your truck.would be kinda cool to have this setup.you fuel milage youd go up with the od trans.keep us posted!

i am leaning towards the compu shift unit becase it has the complete harness to transmission. its plug and play. and i didnt get to pull the trans and someone butched the wires and torched the front drive line. i need a few more parts but i think i will find everthing else in the junkyards. i am hoping some one on this board has a compu shift anf could tell me what they think of it. is it worth the money. in a few more weeks i am going to bolt the trans in and get the rear driveline shortened. then i gues i will spend some money on computer. its still cheaper than buying a new truck but i have been looking at the 2004 ford strokers and the dodge cummings. both are nice . 6speed. i might trade in the lightning.
Wish I had your Dana 60. The independent suspension third member on the front of my 86 is dying and I missed a complete heavy duty Jeep truck last weekend for only $500 by 30 minutes. Good luck with the swap and remember payments go on and on, swaps are only a couple payments. Will watch for more post.
Hi;Ihave a 91 2wd 7.3 non turbo with a E4od.It went at 30 km the first timeon warranty.150 km the second time and 1200.00$ can. Went again at 230km 2000.00$ can.I now have 293 km and it's acting up again.I think it's JUNK and would rather have a C6 anytime.
The E4OD's don't hold up near as well as the C-6s. You'd be better off putting a gearvender on the C-6 and sell the overdrive to someone who really needs it.
On the other hand, if you really want to do it, you can just dig up all the stuff out of the junkyard. You just need the computer, wiring, tps off a 7.3/E4OD pump, map/baro sensor off the firewall of same truck. The only other input needed is the tach if I'm thinking right. If anyone can think of anything else needed chime in!
thanks for all the feedback. it is doable. but i think it is going to be better to just get another c-6 that is 4x4 or have my c-6 rebuilt and converted to 4 wheel drive. so if any one needs a good E4OD i am going to sell it. i can get the paperwork from when it was rebuilt. it has all the updates and new converter. i will find out excatly how many miles where put on it after rebuild. the wrecking yards around here get a $1000. for them and condition is unknown. i was going to ask $750. cash talks also paule9@hotmail.com
