Ok guys, In my 1982 F100 I have a Ford 9 Inch. I've read so many different things about Identifying 28 vs 31 spline axles im confused now. I've read about 9/16 nuts and 11/16 nuts, and the dimples on the end of the axle. Now here's what I have: I have the 3 dimples and 9/16 nuts. The reason I can't pull my axles out and count is because my truck is in storage and I just can't go start taking it apart. Any help to finally get this figured out would be appreciated. Thanks Fred

I thought the 31's were used on the limited slip ones only so look for the "L" on the diff tag like (like 4L09 for a 4.09 rear gear) or just pull the tire, drum, and retaining plate and count them.

Verified 19 mpg city taking off slow as hell the shutting down at red lights, and with the radiator grill blocked flush, no bed cover, "drag shoot" mirrors on I get 24 mpg at 50 to 55 mph on the freeway empty!
However, with a bed cover, no mirrors and Hydroxy
Most fullsize trucks run 31 spline axles regardless of limited slip. But I use the term "MOST" lightly. I don't know what determines what truck will get what spline count. I would assume 4x4's get 31's for sure. For 2 wheelers they must have just pulled numbers out of a hat or something. The only way to know for sure is to pull the axle and start counting.
