hitch bar

I have a F-150 FX4 with 18" wheels with tow package. When I get a hitch bar does it need a drop? When I look it looks like possible a 2" drop but no more. Does this sound right. Also has anyone ever used a hitch ball set, the kind where you can change ball sizes by pulling a pin, it says it is rated to 10000 lbs. I want to get this with the Anti-shock ball mount.

the "drop" will depend on the (level) tongue height (check the tongue weight range of what you will be towing) of whatever you will be towing and of course the height of the receiver hitch on the truck - the "drop" will be that difference is height, allowing for the correct tongue weight.

the anti-shock "mount" sounds fine but i don't have any experience wth the multi-size ball.

You are better off with a combo pintle/2" hitch. The hitch can be raised or lowered on the mounting insert depending on the height of the trailer tongue and it is 10k rated. I never liked those multi balls. The ball on the pintle combo comes in various sizes also if you have a dedicated rig.

The problem with the hitch ball set that I have seen. (I have about a dozen customers a year come though with them.) Is that the pin can rusts . Then you have a fun time trying to get it out.

My $.02 is not to buy them
