Exclamation Mystery oil on hood blanket and Cowel?

I popped the hood to check the oil on my 6.0l with c94's and found the center cowel over the turbo soaked with oil. There is also a wear hole in the hood blanket and a spot 12" or so soaked with oil. The dipstick is slightly over full since my dealer changed the oil at 5000, same as always.

Any ideas what this would be from?

I don't see any leaks around the turbo, but the blue air intake from the turbo is coated with oil residue. I have had the yellow assembly grease around the turbo since it was new.

Wash it off and run it short distances until you can spot the leak.

That doesn't sound good. I would leave it and take it back to the service department if you have any confidence in them. If you are sucking oil into the turbo or the turbo is throwing it, then it would IMHO seem the turbo is not long before it croaks.

Tim, good catch. If the crankcase is overfull it might be throwing oil. I'm pretty convinced that keeping the oil level between min and max is the way to go. He should drain some out amd see if that helps.

We are on the same page my friend, these things are so sensitive to overfull or even JUST full.

thanks, guys

The dealer overfilled it. The level is to the top of the plastic gauge. It's going in tomorrow for oil change and dye. I'll have them under-fill it and add to middle of the indicator range.

I would make them clean up engine compartment and give you new hood blanket it will always be a problem especially once warm weather hits.

My truck also has oil on the hood blanket. Engine also has started surging at highway speeds when you give it some throttle.

Dealer replaced blue flex hose elbow from turbo

I took it to my dealer and we found the blue elbow from the turbo to the air-to-air had torn along the hose clamp. They said the oil is probably from having too much (they are changing it today). They pulled the elbow off an 04 and ordered a new blanket.

All in all, I have 10,800 miles with c93 injectors and the august 03 flash. I have the bell housing spot which we are dying for, and ruffled fins on the lower coolers from corn stalks. I am happy with my truck and have had no major problems.

GOOD news have you done....

Go to this thread, read completely…. Follow, on page 3..MLF250’s format, it is good…and easy! and post. Important update to instructions on page 6.
Most important part of this data...also, there “is” owners out there that have had no problems. To be fare to my methodology… I need the same from the “no problem” owners.. i.e. mileage (mileage is the odometer reading)
important a “no problem” statement if you have had none.

ODOMETER reading at time of problem is critical.
In addition, please read more instructions, bottom of first page, posted by Tim L
The simpler the writing (posting) of “problem/odometer” reading………….the easier it will be to collate.
Do not need many words, NO stories.
I must reduce all the date into a usable format; extra words will take more time to complete.

http://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/sh...hreadid=185570

I implore all 6.0 owners to please take the time

Thanks
Tim

Exclamation I spoke too soon.....

My truck started pulsing at stop signs yesterday? Had it back in today for the oil change and hood blanket. They did a few reprograms to try to fix the surge at idle. Surged more after flashes than before. I had them under fill the oil and it was at the middle of the dip stick. Same tech serviced as the first oil change. I rode with the service manager on the test ride and it still idled ruff. I checked the dip stick when we got back and it was to the top of the plastic - where I have always seen it, now it smells like fuel.

It is going in Monday for injector diagnosis. They will try and get Ford to cover all eight if possible. Still c93's. Wish me luck...

Seems a little strange that after the oil change and after you told them to leave it low it is not.

It is an injector
