1957 f-100 questions.

Hey guys, I've found a 1957 f-100 shortbed standard cab in a local car lot. It has a 272 in it. A couple questions, does anybody have a picture or could tell me what the original upholstry looked like?
Was the vin plate always located on the glove box? This vin plate is laying inside the box and there's no holes for the rivets on the glove box door.

What are the 57-58 parts that are hard to find on these trucks? If you have any other advice let me know. I just might have a driver or a super nice parts truck..... -4speed

Nice find! My truck did not come with a vin ID plate on the glove box either, so I dunno. Hardest parts to find seem to be the grill and hood, everything else is pretty universal between the 57-60's.

Hi 4-speed,

The rating plate on early '57's were mounted on the driver's side door post.
The later '57's, and '58,'59,'60 had them on the glove box door.

On the '57 standard cab, the seat coverings were a brown and tan woven plastic material.
On 1957 Custom cab, seat coverings were available in either red and white, or green and white combinations.

Thanks kenny exactly what I needed!

Dave, didn't even realize you were from Ohio! I'm about 99% sure I'm getting it, if the other guy the salesmen told me about doesn't come through. I will let you know though. There's a 1966 in the paper.... -4speed

The Hood ornament on 57s & 58s are rare as hens teeth. The plate on my 57 is on the passenger door post.

Cool, this one has all the ornaments! I personally like the 57/58 hood better than mine(60). Does anyobdy know the name of the factory pale yellow for 1957? Thanks again, -4speed

This is my last question of the day, was there 2 versions of the 272 offered that year? I only remember seeing that it had a 154h.p official on the data tag.

Does that truck have the more modern carb? My plate says it has 145 hp at 4100 rpm, I must have the other version of the 272.

Engine code "K" (4th character of VIN) = 272 ci. (ECW) ohv. V-8, 2V downdraft.

145 HP @ 4100 RPM (net)
171 HP @ 4400 RPM (gross)

This was the base V-8 for all F-series.

Engine code "L" (4th character of VIN) = 272 ci. (ECY) ohv. V-8, 2V downdraft.

153 HP @ 4400 RPM (net)
181 HP @ 4400 RPM (gross)

This was an optional V-8 for F-350 up.
