A/C ? Why does the A/C run all the time when....

Why does the A/C run all the time when you have the vent selection set to panel, floor or panel/floor? I read the manual and it says that at low outside temps the A/C will not run. But if you have the temp gauge set on a cold setting it will run automaticly if it is hot out side. Mine seems to run all the time regardless of the temputure outside or regardless what the temp selection is set to. Is that right? How does yours work?

Thanks
Chris

The a/c should only run when in the ac position or when you choose in defrost.
Unless you have temperature select model, was that avaiable in the lariat model ? then it will run and cool to mantain the temp you set it at

what makes you think its running ?
because you here it click on /of
or is it truly blowing cold air?

Remember there is a low refrigerant switch in the system that warns you of low level by cycling the compressor off/on

you could have a bad thermostat switch in the dash that is shorted closed!
the way to chk for it is to set the ac to run with the temp select in the middle of the temp.
make sure compressor is running/let run for 4mins.(you'll here it click)
then turn the temp selection switch towards warmer
did the compressor shut of ?? if it didn't then you have a bad temp switch.

Your A/C should not run in Panel (face) or Floor (foot). Only all the others.

In low temps it WILL run although it takes a while for it to kick in. And it will run when you select warm air too. It serves to dehumidify the air.

If yours runs all the time; it's broke.

I stand corrected !

Cool, as G.I. Joe says, "Knowing is half the battle"!

You asked the $100,000 question, though... "Why do you think that's it's working all the time?" (I'm paraphrasing here...)

Now, we'll sit back and wait for the answer.

By running "all" the time, the system stays lubricated. Thus, leaks and compressor failures occur much less than they used to.

Yes...right again
It keeps those seals lubed too so they don't dry up and rot with no use in 6 months (here in OR) (we hibernate)

Sure wish you'd keep that cold air up North. Last week I was running the A/C 'cause it was 70+ and pretty hot with the sun shining in the truck... yesterday morning it was 7° with a wind-chill of WAY below zero

OK, I figured it out.

The A/C runs when,
It WILL run when the vent selection is set to Pannel/Floor, A/C, A/C max, defrost, or defrost/floor.

It will not run when,
The vent selection is set to pannel or floor.

Thanks for the help

Chris

That's the way it's supposed to be TexanF250.

To get the degree symbol °, you hold down the ALT key and type 0176 on the numeric keypad... NumLock must be ON. ;-)
