How mani oil ???

Hi all, I'm installing an underdash A/C system, I got it from a local manufacturer, the compresor is from a Econoline 1991, inline 6 engine.

My question is, since this is a personal proyect; I don't know how mani oil can use my system, original Ford on that econoline used 9 to 11 onces but I'm using my owns hoses and so.

Is there some way to calculate appropited amount?

Any feedback will be appreciated.

Regards;

I would think that you would be ok with that amount.

I've looked and have not found anything that dictates an exact amount based on hose length, etc. Maybe someone else knows.

Hose length has very little to do with the amount of oil required by the system. A/C compressor oil is atomized and carried in the refrigerent as is circulates through the system. You should be fine with the amount of oil recommended for the compressor you are using

Ok. Ford Shop Manual 1991 say should be 3 to 5 once in compresor for normal level. I guess should try 8 onces then run for a couple of days then messure oil level in compresor and add if requiered

Any extra will be appreciated. Thanks guys.

Ecuri is gaining momentum as a positive member of FTE.
Oil will also collect in the condensor and evaporator. See if you can find a number for total system requirement and not just the compressor. Put 1/3 in evap, 1/3 in condensor and 1/3 in compressor. Too little is catastrophic, too much reduces the cooling efficiency. If guessing, I would guess to the high side. I bet you get R-12 there anyway. GL and MANY happy cool days to you!

Well finally a did so:

5 Oz in compresor
2 Oz Evap
2 Oz condensor

Everything seems be right, more over, there was a extrange noise prouced by compressor and it dissapear after service. Yes ! here we can get R12 as easy as R134.

Thanks to all.
