switching from a 2.8 to a 2.9

i bought a good used 87 bronco II 2.9, i have a 85 bronco II excellent shape inside and out with a junk 2.8, my question is should i leave the automatic in the one im fixing or take the manual out of the one the 2.9 is in? the auto works but the 5 speed in the other one doesnt have 5th, and it gets stuck in every gear takes forever to get it out, i do know how to build manual and auto trannys, i havent touched one of these yet but if i stay with the auto did they make a a bronco II with 2.9 with auto? cause i need the kickdown lever or cable whatever they used

Yeah, they made the BII with 2.9 auto, a Ranger one would be the same, too.
