Any updates or last thoughts on upgrading the cam on a 460 EFI engine? I have been checking the options and the Comp Cams XE256H-14 (256/268 duration, .490/.495 lift, 114° lobe sep) is the only one actually advertised for stock EFI. The only reason I am wary of it is the wide 114° lobe separation; my experience is that 110° cams run better. Here are alternatives I found:
Lunati 61600 is rated 250/256 duration, .503/.524 lift and 112 separation.
Isky 311256 is rated 256/256 duration, .492/.492 lift, 32 overlap and 112 separation.
Isky 311256/262 is rated 256/262 duration, .492/.488 lift, 39 overlap and 110 separation.
Crane 350501 is rated 248/260 duration, .456/.487 lift.
Crane 353904 is rated 260/272 duration, .487/.518 lift.

Here is a previous post by DeGideo:
Ford's SVO(now Ford Racing Performance Parts)1993 parts catalog offered a EFI460 cam part # M-6250-T460 with the following specs : 204 degrees duration intake/216 exhaust@.050" lift and .487" valve lift intake/.518" exhaust. Under camshaft footnotes it states : "Increased torque.Smooth idle with good all around performance.Designed for EFI use".They don't offer this camshaft anymore, but the one I put in my 1994 EFI460 engine is a Crane Cams cam with almost the exact specs. The specs are : 204 intake/216 exhaust@.050" lift and .487" intake/.519" exhaust."

The Crane 353904 specs at .050 are 204/216 with alift of .487/.518.
The Comp Cams specs at .050 are 212/219
The Lunati specs at .050 lift would be 207/213.

Exclamation

This is a great thread and really just want to keep it going.

Any performance #s from some of you guys that have all the boltons and/or cam setups?
Example: Deen, DocTorq, Borin & Strokin, etc...

My truck didnt even want to idle correctly when I added a K&N FIPK, so as bad as I want to do cam and headers, I must say that I am a little skeptical of the side effects. But you guys testify that the idle is satisfactory with cam and headers?

Thanks for the great info

Eric

I also found this thread had lots of useful info. A question? I'm converting my 88 460 EFI to carb with a special adapter on the stock intake. I am using the stock cam for now, but wonder what would be a good replacement? JSM84

ok, in order to keep this thread alive, shall we go on with pistons?
I purchased a revised '91 460EFI which had some small upgrades, of one being the keith black KB138 pistons. They have a 22cc dish in them, and should get the stock 8.4cr up a bit to 8.8cr.
I don't know why this piston was chosen, but i think about replacing them for much higher CR. Do the people here have some advices? Only piston i could find, was the domed KB401, with a -11cc dome on it... Should bump the CR up to 11. Can't find them anywhere however, and i'm curious if i can use ther rings from the 138 that are currently in... Engine has never ran yet...
Any info is very welcome.

I put a ford Cobra Jet cam in mine. 282 dur/510 lift. It has a slight lope at idle. It has great torque and man does it pull hard. The RV type cams are a great improvement.

I have a 93 that I just rebuilt. Put the comp efi cam in and the headman headers on. Just have to put the rebuilt trans in. Would a adjustable fuel regulator be a good upgrade?

IMO it's not really necessary with the batch fire injection.

I think that would be a good idea. I realize that this is ideally taken care of with the computer, but from the data I have read, the adjustable FPR allows for some fine tuning and therefore possibly getting those extra horses that are always being looked for.
