What 10 ply/12ply Tire is best for 2003 1 ton?
My Truck came with Firestone A/T 16 in. max air pressure 80lbs. Even though it is a great load bearing tire. I don't think I'm getting the best ride or traction. Im not looking to increase the size, at all, just the Brand Name and type of tire. I still need the A/T type, with the high load rating. Perhaps a little more aggresive tread, but not to soft. I do take it in the dirt, some but asphalt and concrete will be eating them away more. I went to Shore Tire and saw what they had and the 4 ply 18 in simply will not due. Feed back for tire type and any great deals will be greatly appreciated.

Yep, get the Bridgestone Revo AQ-II's with Load Range D or E. A 265/75 X 16 should run you about $150/tire. They got excellent ratings. A friend at work has them on his 3/4 ton and loves them!

Local major tire shops should be able to compete with prices you get from online sources. Wouldn't hurt to ask them to meet or beat the online price, right? Good Guys, Costco, America's Tire, etc etc...
on edit: your thread says you have a 1-ton, but your signature line says it's a F-250. I thought F-250's were 3/4-ton and F-350's were 1-tons?

You are 100% correct F-250's are normally 3/4 ton trucks. However if your real smart when you order a truck you can get the 1 ton springs on a F-250 and keep your 12M tag. Saves you all kinds of dollars on taxes. By adding the Towing, and Camper packages, and the gross vehicle weight springs, the load rating for my truck is 3005 lbs., Standard for 2003 F-350 non-dualy.

FordMan,
I'm not sure what year your truck is, but the F-250 and F-350 SRW Super Duties all have the same springs. The 1 Ton F-350s get their extra load rating from the 10 ply "E" range tire vs the standard 8 ply "D" range tire on the 250s.
You are right about special ordering... My F-250 came with both the tow package and camper package as well as the 10 ply "E" range tires. It is basically a F-350 without the 2" of extra lift block in the rear. However, they didn't increase my weight capaciity because of it.

Edmo,
I believe you said it better then I did, about the 250-350 comparrison, I simply compared my sales sticker info with that of the 1 ton F-350 and the load rates were the same 3005 lbs, (exception) The Dually. My 2003 came with the 10 ply "E" range tires too with max. air pressure of 80 ftlbs.. However the FireStone tires On my truck get terrible traction in the rain. Snow and Ice are great. I also noticed a real rough ride on old concrete hiways. I tried adjusting air pressures and it helped some. More then anything im looking for better traction in the rain. I really like the tech specs on the tire above.

I too found that the Firestones were really rough on old concrete highways and rain traction was not that good. I went with the Duelers but went up to a 285 75R16. Max pressure on them is like 70 psi but I only run that when the plow is on. The REVOs are superior in the rain, but I am not at all impressed with them in the snow and ice. I have gotten off road enough with them too to say that I think I woluld seriously go back to the Steeltex for their all around better grip (wet notwithstanding) over the REVOs. HOWEVER, if I keep this truck long enough to get new rubber on it, I am most certainy going with the Michellin LTX M/S in a 265 75R16. I have heard a lot of guys say how nice they ride as well as having good off road and great rain traction. My truck is a 4 x 4 as will be any future Ford 6.0L truck I may get (hint hint). I think i am gonna swap whatever stock tire comes on that truck and go with the LTXs.

soon as i got the toyo A/T's on my truck i took em on the test drive through the unplowed victorian hilly cemetary w/ snow and ice they drove as if they were on drive pavement then it was off to a wetlands preserve a week later when all the snow turned to ice and mud again right up any hill and through any ditch filled w/ ice mud and water w/o slipping and- they clean themselves out good too in the treads w/o throwing it all over the sides of the truck too.
they come in 10 ply i got....... LT2657516E
i put the bsw out vs. the white lettering

This is all great feed back, have given me some confience in this forum. Ill spend a little more time dong some research and let you all know what i purchased. I have some time. I only have about 16,000 miles on the stock tires. I rotate every 3000 so I can wait till fall if I have to. Unless some knows of a great deal around town.

FordMan,
My stock 265/75R16s Es will also need replacing in the next 6 months and I have been looking for suitable replacements.
I have Revos on my trusty Jeep Cherokee which serves as my backup/second driver. They have been great, but I only have 1,000 miles on them which isn't enough to form an accurate review. Also, a Cherokee is not a Super Duty so there is not much comparison in tire performance between the two vehicles.
The Revos get great reviews over at TireRack.Com, but most reviews I have read are on SUVs... again not an accurate review for my truck towing an 8,000 lb trailer.
Everyone I have talked to with the Michelin LTXs love them. However, I have noticed several sets with more wear than I would expect on the edge of the treads. These were on trucks in parking lots with no knowledge on miles, rotation habits, or owner abuse.
Any other inputs on the Revos for Super Duties???
