Tire rotation on duallys
Hello again,
I have been reading the posts, learning alot and enjoying the banter. I have a question reguarding the tire rotation on my 2000 F350 dually. How do you rotate them. My guess is to take them off the rims. expensive endevor if that is the case. I also notice the outside rear tires wear more than the inside. Is this common?
Second question...I have 21000 on the tires and will have to buy new sooner then later especially on the front. So with the premiun wheels that come on the lariat package what size should I or can I upgrade to? I ask the local tire guy already and he didn't know. He wants to put on what came off. I read the posts but didn't see alot on the duallys.
Thanks

I only know the way my dad taught me years ago(old truck driver yrs ago)
radial tires might be different.
take the inside tire in the rear bring it to the front on its same side.
move the outside tire to the inside ,bring the front to the outside in the rear.
wearing tires on outside in the rear could be a tire pressure problem

You do need to dismount if you want to keep all the polished sides out. The premium wheels are only polished and clear coated on one side.
I had a 99 dually, and this was a pain. One of the reasons I got rid of mine.
As far as the outside rears wearing more, that is normal because they scrape and scuff off when you turn. That's why rotation is crucial for any kind of tire life on a dually.
Like I said, dually rotation is a pain
I can't help you with different tire sizes, but I'm sure others will follow up with that knowledge.
Welcome to the site, and Good Luck!

Sorry didn't realize you had custom wheels!
Bigdeezil, never had the problem with scrubbing an scraping outside
tireand I've own many dually vehicles(Motorhomes and Trucks)
we always found air pressure difference between inside and outside tire
Maybe that just increases what you are saying????? in ashorter time frame
Oh well you drive the real truck anyway like my dad used to!

Wait till you go to replace them 6 tires. I just put 6 on my 99 and it cost me $900 at discount tire. I was able to get 55K out of mine but I did rotate as said before inside to the front out side to the inside and front to the outside. What ever you do do not let these so called tire excperts change the rotation of your tires. This can and will cause a wonderful thing called radial pull that will cost you another rotate to get them off the front of the truck. I always mark mine with a yellow arrowe so I know that they put them on corectly if I am uable to get time to do them myself.

i never rotate tires and get 100,000mi out of the rears.
just balance them make sure the rims are true, keep the
air up and spend the extra time tippin' cold ones.
usually have to drive with the luggs off to get them loose.
i have a welder lopsiding the right side and need to replace
the right front every 40k. this truck is 10,500lbs empty.

Tire rotation on duallys
Hey all, gotta love this site, On the dual wheel rotation issue,,My 99' F-350 Powerstroke,Super Cab, with 9' dump body,4:10 LS, 12,500 GVW has 36,903 miles on Goodyear Wranglers, rotated them once, will get at least 40,000 on them no problem. I dont seem to have outside wear scuff problem on the rear, the truck weighs like 10,000 empty or 4.95 tons on the scale, as I recall the outside tires tend to scuff off some, from the crown of the road, I guess if it weighs enough you dont see the scuffing as much. Would have to assume that the weight of the truck is the main reason I only get like 12.5 MPG average, but I dont baby it,,like the turbo whistle. , By the wey I run the Amsoil 15-40 Diesel-Marine, synthetic in her, I was told could run it for 25,000 miles,(filter change at 12,000 miles ) well I changed it at 21,000 miles, had oil analysis done on that oil,,,,,Here's what they said,,,,
Results of Tests Performed Indicate:
No Corrective Action Required
Oil Is Suitible for Continued Use
Resample At Next Regular Interval
Not bad for oil with 21,000 miles on it,, and It's running great! I put the Amsoil in when the truck had like 11,000 miles on it. Just thought I would add my Fact's into this great site
Later,,,,,,,,,Mark

You will probably atleast have to change the studs.(Longer Ones) I don't know of any other issues like spacing, offset, etc. They are hub piloted wheels, so I don't know if the hub will accept the thickness of two alum. wheels, or not.
That's just an educated guess though. When I had my dually, I thought about it, but never looked in to it any further. I decided that the wheels that were on it were good enough.

You never rotate tires on a dually truck just leave them alone and let them wear as matched pairs on the back. The front tire maybe rotate side to side but I never do it just put new ones on at 30% tread left. The rear tires take a setting in the belts and swapping them to the front is just asking for problems. I never had any problems with my rear drive tires wearing unevenly just make sure the air pressure is equal in all 4 rear tires.

never?
when we rotate and its rare on the back we will move side to side but the tires still go the same direction.
we have done this cause sometimes the drive tire will wear just a little more this way they stay even.
and yes we don't mix our stear tires with traction tires unless we have to.
