they probably dust up more because they are big heavy trucks and do require more braking force. i just spray down all the wheels after driving once they cool down. you can use kleen wheels it helps to keep them clean but they dont let the brakes vent enough. this can overheat them which will give you crappy braking.

if they aren't dusty they aren't working as designed..i've got kleen wheels dust covers on my two f150s (95 &04) and also on wifes car. can't beat them. washing the outside of the wheels is just like washing the body of the vehicles.

Look at BMW's front wheels, they are one of the best stopping vehicles on the road. If your front wheels are getting dirty from brake dust, then your vehicle is doing a pretty good job of stopping. Chevrolet and Dodge don't have this problem because they don't stop as well with those small rotors and weak caliper pistons.

Not to get too far off the subject, but do any of you have brake squeal along with the heavy dusting?

I only have 217 miles on mine and the amount of brake dust has already bothered me.
I'm sure that the pads are probably soft to reduce noise, but as others have said the dust equals wear.
I'm not thinking these brakes are going to be the longest lasting ones I've ever driven... oh well, I still like my truck.

front wheel brake dust

I am having what I think is too much dust, 3500 miles. I am going to talk to the dealer about ceramic brake pads. A friend has a chevy and ceramic, viturally no dust after the pads were installed.

you said look at bmw. Well I have a 2003 745LI and you are correct, they are the best stopping vehicles on the road; however; i do not have anywhere near the brake dust from the bmw(10300 Miles) that I am getting from my '04 screw lariat 4x4 (1145 Miles) I have ordered the kleen wheels but I am afraid of the heat build-up from them.

I have more dust than my other two cars. I intentionally try to go easy on the braking in my truck because I have this vision of a cloud of dust surrounding my front wheels every time I stop. I'm debating whether I want to try the Kleen Wheels covers. We'll see. I'd rather leave the pads alone for now. One of those don't fix it if it ain't broke things I guess. Just wish there was less dust. Waxing does help. Be sure to wipe off all the amor all that oversprays on the rims. Talk about a brake dust magnet!

Ive heard that the wheel covers may cause extra heat, and may warp the rotors, good luck and keep me posted. I'd like to not clean them as much!!

I talked to the Ford dealer, the dust and squeal is part of their pads. They are speced to Ford performance and Ford will not put ceramic on. The dealer basically said I'm on my own on that. They did admit, the problem is on all new Fords, mostly the big vehicles.

I have not researched for the 04F150 yet as it is so new but I will be doing so soon and switching to ceramic pads if they are available. The factory pads stop well...but very noisey and the wheels are black every other day.

I have used them on a Toyota class 7 race truck...work great, very little dust. Or at least you can't see the dust because it is very light or blows off.

Have used on 96 Expedition that is driven very hard...same great results.

Installed on many other Tundra's, Tacomas, 4runners, F150, F250, Dodge trucks as well as a few GM. All have worked well.

We get them through CSK Wholesale AKA Kragen Auto Parts wholesale devision and they call them QS series or "QUIET STOP" and they are their premium replacement brake pads.

Let me know if you guys come up with a part number and I will do the same if I get time. I called CSK and they are calling Raybestes to see if they are available or in the works etc...

I should have an answer soon but will not be online to post it until possibly later tonight.

Take care,
Brian at www.ProtechEZLift.com
