Which Late model radiator in a 55?

I'm getting ready to drop the 302 into the 55. I understand that the original radiator was a 4 lb system and the 302 is a 12-16 lb system. Also because I'm changing to an automatic , I'll need a tranny cooler.
So, for the above reasons, I need to go to a newer radiator. I believe I remembered Fat Fenders saying a 79 would almost bolt in. Has my memory failed or did I read it wrong? Or what year would be better? I have a radiator from a crown vic but it is about 7 inches too wide.
I don't mind fabbing a new mount , but would like to remain somewhat stock in appearance. Now where is that Niolon article on fabbing a trans mount? Ah there it is. Have wire welder will try not to screw up !

The radiator I used was a Radpro #433. This radiator is aftermarket replacement for a lot of Ford light trucks from 1967 to 1979 with some of the following engines; 302,351,352,360,390 & 400.
The install was easy, the radiator flanges fit the old radiator support, but I did have to move some of the mounting holes. I also removed the old radiator brackets from the old support to mount the radiator more vertical and to give me a little more room for engines, water pumps & fans.
Look around on the web. I found mine for $139 and shipping was included. I ordered in the afternoon, and had my new radiator in the morning. I was pleased.

i have a few stock radiators out of my 79's, i was going to have to custom mount it b/c it sat too close to the engine using the stock u horn. i figure on redoing the brackets like i think was mentioned. my 79 radiator hoses worked also for the stock radiator, think i had to cut the top one but that was it to get it to the stock radiator. i also seen some trick custom front mounts but i could only imagine trying to get the fenders and hood to line up to a square tube fabricated radiator mount

What those guys said. The 70s radiators fit well. Just a few holes to drill and jacking around with hoses. I believe at least two core thicknesses are available for the light trucks. I used one for a 400 with AC. Just to be safe. Only a bit more expensive. Sorry I don't have a part number.
I could have gotten by with less perhaps, but I have owned several built cars over the years. An engine that runs on the edge of overheating is a pain so I shoot for a bit of overkill in the cooling dept. I think a bit of extra radiator is reasonable here because the grill opening is a bit compromised from what the donor radiator was designed for. Any you may have trouble coming building/finding a shroud that works ideal.

I am concerned that the manly 302 run cool even on the hot days here in the sunny south. Even tho I am somewhat close to the mountains it still gets very hot and humid here. I have a friend who can't drive his Plymouth hot rod in the summer. I don't wan to be like that.
Ok radiator problem solved, now where is that big old 800 lift 800 duration cam for that just right lumpy idle?
