Question Receiver hitch holes

I have a college plug which I have always used in my receiver hitches to plug the opening when not in use. With my 2004 F150
lariat with trailor towing pkg, the plug hangs out of the receiver and it sags. The hitch is drilled with the holes too close to the end of the hitch. Has anyone else seen this problem?

My receiver has two sets of holes. One close to the end and another further in. I find this convenient for ball mount towing adjustment.

I'd rather see a hitch designed for ball mounts than one designed for college plugs. You can always drill another set of holes in the plug.

The reciever is not as deep as in prior years. Some adjustments will have to be made.

I had this problem too. But I was able to fix mine because the hitch cover was made of aluminum. I took it to work, had a welder fill up the hole then redrilled it in the proper place. But on my Dads 04 expy his hitch cover was steel and you could have the same thing done, but I didnt have access to a steel welder so I made a spacer out of a thick piece of rubber. Worked like a charm and no vibration.
