PROPER EXHAUST CHOICE FOR 99 F250 5.4
I have a 99 F250 SD.
I have modified the Air Filter intake and made a Homemade K&N Type setup.
Have also put on a Cat-back 2-1/4 exhaust. No MUFFLERS. It has a rumble, but it doesnt growl. Due to the fact I live in Illinois, I have to comply with emissions and the Illinois Air Team ( a waste of time & money) However.....
Does anyone have any serious solutions to get more power, sound and performance from this truck and still be emission compliant?
My understanding is that there are 3 Cat. Converters on this truck.
Our Expedition ahs the exact same exhuast and growls like a bitch.
If anyone can shed light on which way to go on this, I would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 03-Apr-02 AT 03:01 AM (EST)] A Superduty should only have 1 huge cat not 3(at least the V10 does) At any rate, the cats aren't really restrictive as they use to be. You could go with the header route and/or a chip. All are smog legal. Also remember that the 99 5.4L's only have 235hp not the 260hp like the 00's and up.

2 1/4" exhaust from the cat back is WAY TOO SMALL . You'll never get an agressive sound outta that and you are restricting the engines performance . Even removing the muffler won't help . In my opinion all you get is a bad muffler sound from this type of set up .
Also .................. the larger the pipe the deeper the note .
Keep that in mind .
