My understanding is that the E-550 came out sometime in 2002 for use as a cab chassis version only, specifically for the motor home market. I've heard that the frame rails are further apart than those in the super duty trucks (f-450 and above) that allows better packaging for chassis componenents needed for a motor home conversion. The E-550s came with solid mono-beam axles in the front, not sure about the rears. All came with 225/70R19.5 medium duty (steel carcass) truck tires, the kind that take like 110 psi. I'm not sure if they are still in production.

Ford stopped production of the E-550.
Something like 6 months after they were brought to market.
My understanding Ford closed the plant.

Not sure, but I think 7.3 Powerstroke was the only available
engine.

The Quigley 4X4 conversion was available for upfit on these models.

The plant is still in production, the one and only plant that produces the E-series vans is in Lorain, Ohio. If you are ever in the neighborhood, drive by. It is off Baumhaurt road on I-80 (Ohio Turnpike). I think it is exit 135. Just take the exit and go north towards Lake Erie. You will see the plant on your right, but you will notice a sea of E-vans first...
