Power to the power point?

Yesterday I put my radar detector into my new '02 F250(not that I speed, but for safety sake...) and connected it to the power point. When I shut off the engine, the radar detector did not shut off. Are the power point and cigar lighter supposed to always be on? Is there one of those delay shut offs (like the dome lights) that I don't know about? I thought they would have only been powered when the key was on.

They stay on all the time . Your best bet is a direct wire to the fuse block off one of the terminals that the ignition controls . The detector does not draw enough juice to cause a problem , in most cases .

Not going to speed , huh ...... A LIKELY STORY

Some radar detectors have a feature that they shut off after 3hrs of non activity.
at least the one that i have does.
You will have to wire something different if you need to as stated before.

Instead of wiring something, why don't you just unplug it before you get out?
