Lincoln Zephyr gears

I have been wondering about the 1946 3 speed I have and whether or not it is a strong transmission. The unit has been fully rebuilt. It sounds like the gear ratios are not going to be ideal, and the inability to down shift to first unless stopped will probably be a pain. However, in reading about the Lincoln Zephyr gears recently made available, they make the old 3 speed sound like it could be a fairly strong unit. The gears are very expensive, but a lot less than adapting up another transmission. Does anyone have comments to share on any of this?
