2003.5 cummins, is ford doing anything?
The iwas reading the dieselregister and they say cummins now has 325/600 ratings in their new HO diesels.
http://www.turbodieselregister.com/
at the bottom of the first page it is there. Is ford going to up the numbers a little bit to compete? I know the 6.0 needs to get the kinks worked out of it though, but ford did have the most powerfull diesel for a while. The chevy allison tranny can not handle much more torque, only like 550 pounds of toqrue, as where the torqueshift has plenty of growing room at 1200 pounds.

i dont think ford needs to up the 6.0, get the few problems fixed, and thats all. The 6.0 is a good engine and, as most of us think, the Ford Super-Duty's are better than Dodge's Heavy Duty's. I think that once the few problems are worked out, people wont be afraid to buy them anymore and feel like they need to get a Dodge. i am not saying it would not be neat if ford did up the 6.0, just saying that they dont need to.

Dont forget the Max
Dont forget the Duramax.. Its been powered up also 310 hp and 590 ft lbs. Im sure the Ford isnt far Behind.
Gm Started this craze when they Introduced the Duramax ( a great engine) and then ford Upped with the 6.0..Taking it to First. So now Dodge and Gm have Upped and Ford is Back to last.
Its a see saw I tell ya!!!
Anyway.. ANY current diesel has MORE than Enough to pull anything any sane person needs to pull!

Until they are in production and on the road. The current production engine is the top. So for at least afew more weeks it'll be Ford. I'm sure Ford will up the power. The power on all of them, even years ago, is plenty to get any work done by even the hardest working people. They all have good trannys, except maybe Dodge(its arguable). They need to boost fuel economy. Whoever gets better milage out of theirs first will be a big winner.
Cody1960 what did you mean "Fords failure to bring the 5 speed auto is hurting the loyal Ford crowd..."?

You know what guys, I guarantee you that none of you could tell the difference in 5 or 10 lb./ft. of torque. ALL of these trucks will tow more than a man needs to be trying to tow with a pickup truck. This HP / Torque battle is starting to get out of hand.
What I would look at is...1.) Why do Ford and GM have to use V8s to compete? And 2.) Name a diesel engine with a proven track record like that of the Cummins. (There ain't one).
I guess Ford and GM will keep designing new V8 based "diesels" every 5 years or so, and Dodge will just keep turning up the Cummins.

I just find it funny that dodg is still using the same basic engine design that they used in their first cummins trucks, with some updates, and can still compete, and get good fuel milage to boot. My uncle's ram 2500 4X4 quad cab long bed gets a consistant 26 MPG on the highway, much better than my 5.4 Sd, and he ghas a lot more weight.
