i recently bought a 460 d1ve-6015-a2b with dove-c heads when i was stripping down the motor the timing chain cover broke. is this a hard or expensive part to find? do i need one from another block from the same year or do the late 70's fit aswell?

I will assume with that casting number it has the dip stick tube in the timing cover? It is just the standard 460 timing cover?

Any one with the dipstick tube in it will work.

You can find these on e-bay all the time, new and used.

 

nope the dip stick is in the oil pan.

 

That makes it even easier since you can use either style. Buy the first good one you can find and if it has the dip stick tube just cap it off.

Its been changed over to a rear sump pan then.

E-bay for a new or used one. There are new ones on there most all the time.

Like mchild said, you can go either way with the dipstick.
