Yes I might be miss using this board...ERG Valve?
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 17-Apr-02 AT 11:12 PM (EST)]Ok still can't figure out the serpentine problem but the engine service soon light came on last week. My neighbor who has a computer auto analyzer conducted a test which indicated a bad ERG valve? Where can I find this beast and should I check something out before replacing it?
Thanks George

Do you mean EGR valve? (Exhaust Gas Recirculting Valve.)
It should be located next to or even direct behind the actual throttle body. It bolts on to the throttle body adapter. It has a long tube attached that runs down to the exhaust manifold.
Won't be cheap. I'd suggest a second opinion. There are ways of testing the EGR valve itself for defects. Sometimes a code can be thrown by one system yet another system could be the culprit.
I had a car that threw a code telling me the EGR was bad, turned out that it was a leaking intake manifold gasket. Go figure...

Are you sure it's not an EGR (vs ERG) valve? The Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) is installed only on those SD trucks with "California" emissions pkgs. On the driver's side exhaust manifold you should see a tube that goes up to the throttle body. The EGR valve should be what the tube actually terminates into. Please note that I'm speculating about the exact position- my truck doesn't have an EGR system.

The "California" emissions pkg is kind of a misleading name. Several states now require the pkg- including many in the NE. I don't see where having one is an especially bad thing. I suspect that all of the SD trucks & SUVs will have the pkg in a couple of years.
