transfer case

today i was able to put my 92 exploder into 4x4, the motor worked, but when i looked to see if the front shaft was spinning it wasn't, could this be that damn motor showing a wrong positon, or could this be something more serious. its gotr 110k miles on it and the tranny runs good. i will replace fluids and take apart the shift motor totally. Has this happened to anyone else??

Try pulling the motor off and seeing if it moves when you push the button. If it doesn't we have your problem, if it does you have problems... I once accidentally switched my '95 Explorer into 4Low while it was moving and unfortunately it gutted the case.

about how much does a transfer case cost at a junk yard, and if i do go ahead and get one, should i just go for the manuel and make it fit my automatic. I am still going to fix the motor this week along with an oil change, i will look at the transfer case to see if it has any shrapnel in it, is thier anything else i should do to see if it is in one peice, how long does it take to swap a transfer case

I have no idea how much one cost at a salvage yard. I'll assume the motor worked, I'd advise having it checked-out first it may just be something simple like a linkage being jammed (keep your fingers crossed). One things for sure, going from an auto to a manual Tcase would be the most expensive option.

sometimes you have to try a few times before it engages ,especially if you don't use it a lot.If it's the motor I think you can adapt a shift arm quite easily.
