Whoooo hoooo....and here comes the smack talkin'

I'll tell you this. I lost to 5.0s but I've taken more than I've lost too. I haven't even started on the mods yet

Hehehe I've got a few mods planned myself (not for my truck, it is, and will probably always be slow), but I want to run 11's, so I'm doing heads, cam and intake sometime soon. By the way, truck looks good.

Hemi Trucks Suck!

The Hemi is an absolute joke. The thing has no power and is just a big marketing scheme. Chrysler's marketing is impressive, but the truck is not. Also it has always irritated me how there is absolutely no website out there that bashes the Hemi. So I made one. It's just getting started, but hopefully it serves as both something informational for someone tempted to buy one of these nasty trucks, as well as **** off the Hemi community!

BTW, this current engine is a cheaper version of what they used to build. Technically more advanced, but still. It's a cheap engine.

As for knowing nothing about the Hemi, you really don't know who you are talking to. I've rebuilt more Hemi's than you've seen in person. I have a 426 sitting in my garage ready to go into my 68 Dart SS clone. I know exactly what a Hemi is. Honda's pent roof and 4 valve motors are no more Hemi's than the new 5.7 is.

And how are the Explorer transmissions irrelevant? You act like Dodges are junk because your dad had a trans problem in his truck. Ford had just as many troubles with Explorer transmissions as Dodge did with their trucks. The fact of the matter is that all manufacturers have troubles at one point or another. Seems totally relevant to the situation to me. I'm sure you can't see that though.
That's a mouth full. Just ask Toyota about their new Tundras.

Yup....any Ford powered Escort with a 1.6-1.9 CVH motor.

The Mazda motored Escorts are not hemis.


Talk about dredging up a thread from the past!!!

Skimming the posts, I didn't read anyone mentioning the 5.7 hemi is a "semi-hemi" at best. [edit....demon did say they weren't real hemis]

Neat crossflow head but the chamber has squeezed ends.....ALMOST like the one cut corner of the "semi-hemi" BOSS 429.

Question

Funny that you should mention the 429 Semi-Hemi. I was thinking about that very engine when I made my last post, then forgot to add it.


The SOHC 2.0 is really the 1.9 Escort engine with a modified head, or at least that is what I read some time ago in a magazine (Hot Rod?). I have one in anycase in my wife's 1998 sedan. Goes like scat. We also have the twin cam ZX2 that can really scream as it's been ported and relived. Out accelerated a Corvette when it was relatively new in Y2K. He would have beat me except that he quit racing at about 75 mph!

well this has pretty much been brought up already, but i thought id add my expertise. the so called "Hemi" in the new dodges is not a true Hemi.

the most well known version (debued in 1964) displaced 426 CI with 425 HP, while earlier versions displaced 391 CI, and the Hemispherical design originated in chrysler powered planes in WWII

the Hemi gained its name from having Hemispherical combustion chambers
to put it simply, the Hemispherical design of the combustion chambers creates greater surface area and more complete cumbustion, therby increasing the engines displacement (readower).

HOWEVER the so called "new hemi's" heads do not have a full hemispherical combustion chamber, rather they have what are known as "quench zones" around a smaller domed center of the chanber (this makes valve placement marginally easier) and in turn, the much smaller displacment engine only puts out 345 Hp.

note: the 426 Hemi was listed from the factory as 425 HP at 5000 RPM and 490 Ft-lbs at 4000 RPM, but the true number was downplayed for insurance reasons and i know personally that a vintage 426 Hemi (stock, unmodified, unmolested, rebuilt to factory specs) puts out more like 510 HP and 570 ft-lbs of torque. i dont have the dyno sheet on me for the RPM placement of those numbers, sorry

First Chrysler Hemi: 1951 ~ 331cid ~ B&S 3.81 x 3.63 ~ 180 HP @ 4000 RPM

Second: 354cid; Third: 392cid.

The combustion chambers have NOTHING to do with engine displacement.

Real hemis actually have a very poor burn rate at lower RPM's.....To make any compression, the piston is a miss-shapen mess causing all sorts of chaos.

Of course, high RPM and forced induction is where the hemi really shines beacuse of the sheer volume of air it can move.

The new Chrysler hemi chamber is a big stretch from being a "hemi", in comparison, the old BOSS 429 (non CAN-AM heads, the street version) was much closer, and it had very small "quench" areas on the sides of the chambers to improve it's street manners. The 427 SOHC had no such quench areas and even if Chrysler's infamous 426 stock DID produce 501HP, the 427 SOHC made 657HP bone stock in contrast.......

The pistons for hemi-headed engines are definitely works of art. The ones that fit the Endyne-worked BOSS 429 heads with the 3" intake valves and 2" exhaust valves look insane.

The old 426 was a great motor, and many improvements were made to the design by various racers over the years, like the use of Ford-sized cam journals because the cams liked to flex.......... And other things.

The new engine is much more like a pent-roof chamber than it is a HEMI. Chrysler simply owns the name, so they can call it whatever the hell they want.
