I don't know the exact specs from those engines, but chevy was most always in the lead with HP up until the last couple of years. It seems that they may have to go back to the drawing board with their v8's. I think they have about maxed out thier v8's, while still keeping them reliable.

TBI's
4.3 = 165/225
5.0 = 175/275
5.7 = 200/310
SPFI/Vortec
4.3 = 200/260
5.0 = 220/280
5.7 = 255/330
Close estimates, probably off on the lousy TBI engines.
Dodge:
3.9 = 175/230
5.2 = 220/300
5.9 = 245/360
F-trucks
4.9 = 160/275
5.0 = 185/280
5.8 = 210/325
It's Sunday, but I'm not too far off.....

I was talking about 350's in particular. The Vortec might be rated higher, but has no noticable increase in power and a definite decrease in gas mileage. Believe me, I know. My dad owns a GM pickup with each engine. I don't know if you have been around Chevys much, but most people who are actually prefer the old TBI system.

The TBI 4.3 was called Vortec due to the head design. Torque was 235, not 225, at least for the '94 that I owned. Oil consumption was a little high on that engine but I had no other problems. TBI had a clean, simple look under the hood.
The main reason I bought that Chevy was the Ford 4.9 I test drove was gutless by comparison. Both were 2wd automatic regular cab half tons.
