They will need to be replaced. I have replaced all of my door lock acutators. Ford designed another great way to make money off the customers with these things. It should run you about $600 bucks to have all of them replaced by ford.

Do it yourself

You can have the dealer do it, but I found after searching the forum on door lock problems that you can replace the door lock actuators yourself. I am not a mechanic but found it relatively easy to do. Each actuator runs between 45 and 55 bucks.

You can go to www.fordpartsonline.com and get the revised parts. All four are less than $150, and it take 2-3 hours to replace. Did all mine and they work great!

easy

actually I just did mine The fist door i removed the whole lock it took 30+ min. but i found out you can actually change each of them in about 10 min or less each. looking at the lock the actuators slide off so you can slide each of them off by just bending a tab. (Dont try this at home) but I found I could break the old actuators off then slide the new ones on and plug them in. So the first one took me a hour total getting that lock back in and all the conecting rods in the right place can be a bitch. The remaing doors and back hatch took me less than 30 min. once again look at what and how you are doing it and even though breaking it worked great for me I caution anyone from doing it I am sure ford wants more than a dollar for a whole lock assembly if you break it. for me total cost $175 for 5 actuators.

That resembles a problem that I'm having with my 2000 X Limited. Where did you get the accuators from for such a good price?

repair idea

I had a similar door lock problem on my 2001. I took the panel off and noticed that the plastic assembly fits in a metal slot. Replaced it in slot and it worked once and then broke again. Next time I applied a little glue to hold it in the slot and it has worked ever since... be careful applying glue...good luck

As indicated in a post up above, go to fordpartsonline.com. The revised versions that are of a better design, and are $130-150 for the set of four doors.

Regards,

Joe

Thanks for the info. I'll try the fix first, then buy new components if it doesn't work

I would save yourself the trouble and just replace the actuators. The original design is poor and nothing but replacement fixes 'em.

I noticed a month ago that my rear doors were not locking. Glad I noticed it before someone opened the doors and took all my belongings. Actually, the rear doors were not unlocking. I put another amplifier for my new doors speakers. The audio shop told me just to change the actuators. They charged me $150.00 to replace the two actuators and install. They used aftermarkets. They work great now!
