Tow(?) for "MyDads64" & others

I had posted a (?) about a 65 250 mpg. But the truck sold before I had a shot at it.

BUT I did find a nice 64 f100 I'm thinking about. How do you like yours? Would this make a acceptable tow vehicle? (V8, 3 spd)?

I know it's not a HD as the 250 but would it be good to tow a tandom trailer with a 63 ford Falcon?

Any opinions would be helpful!

I'm looking for a nice old truck to use as a tow vehicle to haul the above combo as well as (not at the same time) load up my '55 Farmall Cub for the tractor shows.

I also have my eye on a '63 Chevy 3/4 ton, but would like to stay Ford if I can find a nice one.

Let me know what you all think! Are the early F100s heavy duty enough to handle this? I would think they would be a little better at Highway driving (not geared as low?) as the 3/4 tons. But I don't know that much about them.

Any help would be GREAT!!

Guy

You should use a a long bed truck . Some people will tell you diff. go to a travel trl. dealer ask them about truck length if it makes any diff. Now if they say yes on short bed. Thay are using an extra cab or 4 door truck that has a longer wheel base.

as long as the truck is in good shape and not rusted out and has a strong motor, you shouldnt have much trouble.

I use my 64 CC short flareside, 292V8, std w/overdrive to pull my 16' equipment trailer with a tractor & impliments on it. I am more confident in the truck since changing the master cylinder for a dual piston one. Also, better performance since changing to Pertronix ignition. I have also pulled the trailer with crushed granite stone on it - loads ranging from 2.7 - 5.4 tons! Quite a load, but it handled it.

The truck appears to be in excellent shape. Engine rebuilt as well.

The breaks are what I would be most concerned about. MyDad64, you said you changed out the master to a twin. Is that an after market item? I am NOT a mechanic and was wondering if you could give me a little more info. I would most likly have someone do it for me due to both lack of knowledge AND time.

55cub, this URL will give you good guidance on the master cylinder changeout. I used it.
