Where is speedometer cable?

I'm trying to find exactly where the speedometer connects on the transfer case of my 95 explorer limited 4x4. My spedometer just died, I have no reading, and need to know where this is. There's a beast of crossmember that I don't want to move, but looks like I will need to to get to transfer case. Thanks!

I'm not sure what year they went to it, but the later model Explorers have an electronic speedometer. The speedometer is driven from the PCM. There will also be a RABS speed sensor located in the rear diff. Look for an electrical connection in the
top part of the rear diff.....

believe the previous post is correct and you don't have a cable, your speedo is electronic

Speedometer gear then...

I haven't gotten it lifted (rain/ice) so didn't get a great look yet, but didn't see any electrical connectors on rear diff, can't get good look at front of diff yet. If it's electronic, there has to be some gear the speedo is getting readings from, would that be in the rear diff on the 95 explorer limited, 4x4? The "OD off" light started flashing when speedometer stopped working.

You can't see the electrical connection in the diff. from the rear.
No gear with the RABS sensor, it's an inductive (or hall effect) pickup.....

As I recall there is a VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor) on the driver's side of either the tranny or the output of the T-case (I would go check but I sold it mine in May). There is a simple plug going into it and the sensor is easy to change. Also the VSS has a plastic gear that can wear-out. I had mine replaced for about 40 bucks including a new VSS.
By the way, don't be too concerned by the OD OFF light flashing. The computer isn't getting a vehicle speed so it thinks the truck is sitting still so it will have a fault stating something to the effect of excessive slippage.

There is a sensor in the rear end too. This went out on my friend's E-350 motorhome and the tranny would not even shift, no speedo, no nothing. It was a small part in the rear that didn't cost too too much to replace (I think under $20 but don't quote me on that).
