Gasket sealer?

I just bought a 460 long block and am in the process of assembling. My question is when I install the timing cover and water pump do I use gasket sealer or not? If I should use gasket sealer what kind should I use. This is the first time I have actually done anything like this.
Thanks,
John

If you use it, use it very sparingly. If it presses out when you tighten up the bolts, you used too much.

The problem is that these little bubbles or blobs of hardened sealer can fall off in your crankcase and plug your oil pickup screen.

I would just put a dab on each corner where the timing cover and oil pan meet. This is a notorious spot for leaks.

Also, do not use blue RTV. Use Permatex, or Ultra Copper.

On these parts I like to use the stuff in a little brown bottle with a swab in it. It sticks the gaskets and seals at the same time and you don't have to worry about the air bubbles. In the corners I use the Ultra silicone. I like the blue it kinda goes along with the blue motor.
