What clutch do you like better? Mechanical or Hydraulic?

Hey thanks for the feeback. I personally do like my 1982 with the mechanical clutch. I've only had a few problems with my mechanical clutch since we got the truck in 1991. Had to replace clutch 2 times, Z-bar, and the pedal bracket under the dash.

I looked into the cable thing, but haven't seen yet a good way to make it work in a truck. It seems like a lot of work. I guess the reason I like the hyd version is familiarity. I teach aircraft hydraulics. There is a reason aviation went from mechanical to hydraulic, and that can be applied to cars. However, proper bleeding is ESSENTIAL to proper operation, just as is proper adjustment on a mechanical clutch.

Hey teds74ford are you an aircraft mechanic? I went to school for that, just need to take my O and P's.

Yeah, but I am an instructor now, so I don't really work on planes anymore.

Of the heavy duty (F series) 4 speeds, the new process 435, Borg warner T18 are alike as first is not syncro, but the BW T19 is.

mechanical all the way for me...i just like the fact that you can adjust it easier and you have a hard contact to your clutch...not a tube filled w/ fluid

I have 74 highboy f250 np435 (had360 motor) and 84 f250 with 460 (told it came out of 68 or 69 thunderbird) and factory (I think) manual trans. And hydraulic clutch...gonna put 460 into 74..question is kinda same what clutch and tranny is my better option? Thanks...I'm new to this so if I posted in the wrong space I appologize
