Will a 2000 3.8 swap out for a 1996 3.8?

I know this is the 4.2 forum, but I didn't see a windstar forum. Does anybody have a clue if I can swap a 2000 3.8 into a 1996 3.8 windstar? A connecting rod exploded in my 96 windstar and I have to replace the motor. The guy at the salvage yard said if I swap intakes they would interchange. Does anybody know this for sure? I have worked for Ford for six years, and I'm not sure. I work as a parts counter person, and the part numbers are different. They both have split port induction, so common sense would say they would swap. I need Help!!!!!!!!!!!!

I would think so. How much are you buying the 2000 intake for? Depending on the price, I would try it. It's the exact same engine I'd assume, so I say go for it.

you may want to swap computers also as i'm not sure that the 1996 engine had the split port manifold[the 2000 does]
