SD Mirror Question

Being the new SD owner, I accidentally clipped the passenger mirror on my 2001 250. My question is, "Can you replace the black molding around the actual mirror glass or do you have to replace the mirror?. I only chipped part of the black outter molding and scuffed the outside of the mirror paint. Otherwise the mirror is in normal operating form. Thanks in advance for any help.

Hey Hootr, you have to replace the whole thing of course. Why would it be easy?? I replaced mine last year, pass. side. The outside was ok but the guts got all broken up. Don't know if it's any use to you but the old one is yours for shipping costs... KP

Thanks everyone for the info.

KP,

Couple of questions: Is your mirror the standard black or is it painted a specific color and is your mirror the slide out style?

Thanks again in advance,

My mirror is off my 99 and is all black. My truck is red. I don't know exactly what you mean by slide out but I will guess. Mine mounts directly to the door on one large mount. I have seen on the newer trucks the mirrors are mounted on two thinner stalks, one top and one bottom. By slide out do you mean the newer style?? Hope this helps. KP

KP, sounds like you have the regualr "mickey mouse ear" mirror, where I think Hootrlvr is looking for the trailer mirrors.
They have the 2 posts, and slide out when you have a trailer on the back, making it easier to see down the trailer.

Like mentioned above, ebay seems to be a good place to pick one up, there are after market mirrors that look identical also.

Are'nt the tow mirrors and the sport mirrors interchangable? I thought they were. I am wondering cause of the mount situation. I have the sport mirrors and want to change for the tow mirrors.

I picked up a pair of OEM power heated telescoping mirrors on Ebay last night for $220. I'll have a pair of the power "mickey mouse ear" mirrors available soon. Heated is a "hot" option on those cold Montana mornings.

Also bought a set of the C-Betr mirrors.

My wife and I both commented on how bad the vision is to the sides/rear with the standard mirrors and the SCab on our "new to us" 2000 F350.

In the past, I have had the mirror glass replaced on truck mirrors for about $10.
