05 expo issue

Hello everyone, I’m buying a 05 expedition from a buddy of mine. He has owned it since brand new, always had it serviced at ford or by himself at 3k miles. Plugs were changed by ford some years back with few cop’s. About a year ago, he went to drive it and heard a pop noise from underneath, long story short found plug bad for oil sensor on oil pan, dead short. He said it popped fuse few times before he discovered plug. Replaced plug and fuse. Cleared codes. He took for drive and then started getting p0011 and p0021. It does not have cam phaser noise or ever did before symptoms of cam phaser, idles perfect. You can hear the injectors, that’s only noise. I’m going to tow home tonight and begin tracing wires and back tracking to maybe find the cause of this. I’m gonna start with new set of spark plugs since it’s been probably 60k+/- miles since they were done. It has 170k miles currently. I will use forscan to check it over better then cheapo scanner he was using to check it. I feel there’s some wires damaged and/or bad spark plugs. He replaced both vvt solenoids with Dorman from o’ Reilly. I’m also considering dropping oil pan to check pickup tube as well MMO and fresh oil. Thanks for future help.

Got it home, Forscan hooked to it. Everything looks good but on koeo test, it came up with p2006 iMrc stuck closed. I did get p0011 and p0021 codes again after idling. If you rev, it goes up to 3k rpms and stops. Idle is smooth still.

But it still has the original phasers and timing chains / tensioners ? The '05s were the first year for the 3V motors and almost all had the phaser fail issue. New phasers were redesigned in '08 . With that mileage I would go ahead and do the phasers/chains/tensioners/oil pump and you should be good to go till the head gaskets blow.

Update. I test drove it, it ran great, rev up no problem but wouldn’t shift out of first gear. It shifts in reverse, goes into 2nd manually with shifter. Codes I’m getting are p0731, p0011 and p2006. O/D light flashes too after starting driving. I feel it’s something simple since it’s been maintained so good, not sure where to look

Another update. Checked wiring on transmission. Main harness had some atf inside connector. Sprayed with maf cleaner and air compressor to dry. Checked output shaft sensor and connector clean/dry. Checked turbine shaft sensor and it had atf inside that. Used maf cleaner and air compressor in plug. Test drove in 1st gear, then 2nd and then drive. O/d light didn’t flash and it seemed as if it shifted normal but didn’t go into o/d, but also approached stop sign. I tried it in drive, o/d started flashing and stayed in probably 2nd gear. Could the turbine sensor be faulty since it’s leaking fluid, but still reading reason it didn’t cause a fault for the sensor instead of a shift solenoid?
