There aren't many junkyards down south here, most people just pull the junkers to the back of their lot. I have towards Jacksonville, FL about 30 miles to get to the nearest one that has anything worth spending any time on.

Here in Mid. Ga.we got 2 good ones,Bobs Pick and Pull, and R&R salvage Yard. There more but these are the best.As for pulling them to the back of there lots, stop and see if they will let you get what you need or the whole thing .You can get some real good deals on stuff and sometimes you can get the whole thing for free just to move it ,not a bad deal if you have a place to put it.

R&R salvage Yard, is crap and it is run by crooks. you cannot buy one part of a transmission, you have to buy the whole thing. Pull-A-Part down the street is much cheaper, better stuff, and somewhat organized.
Sorry just my nickle

Ya'll know whether or not there are any 66's in your junkyards down there? The ones here in Dalton, won't sell the parts. They all say they're planning to restore "one of these days."

Junkyards and Engines

Hi everyone! I am a student at Wesleyan College in Macon Ga. I need to find an engine to for research. I need a small direct inject diesel engine. I am trying to test alternate fuels (specifically biodiesel) for emissions. I don't really know too much about cars but I have been researching cars and motors. I am looking for a single cylinder with a compression ratio of 21:1, 6 hp (that works decently or could work with some fixing up). If anyone could give me information about whether I could find something like that in a junkyard, how much would it be, do you think I could run this experiment.. etc I would really appreciate it. Thank y'all so much!

Would that be like a tractor engine? If so try calling some of the tractor dealers around the area and maybe they could let you know.
