Angry A question about the F-150 inside fenderwells

Ive got a question about the 2004 F-150, and could really use some help. I have a new STX 4 wheel drive, and theres no cover on the inside of the fender weels, so that every bit of mud, salt, sand or anything else can get in on top the frame, gas tank, motor or where-ever it might land. Is this the way they are made, and is that an after the market product!! I never noticed it, but my best friend just bought a Dodge and his was the same way, and he had them installed today. He pointed it out to me tonight. Seems like a cheap way of doing things, even though they cost way more than they used too. I had a 99 XLT 4x4, and it had the wheel well covers. Where can I find those? Any help appreciated!!

Are you talking about mudflaps?

The trucks have an inner fender, made of steel, there are some rubber flaps that also go in there.

You should check in the 2004 Forum for an actual product.

Not mudflaps, Im talking about the black inner fenderwells that keeps mudd, and everything else from building up on the frame, and everything else under the truck! When I look straight at the tires, I can see my frame, gas tank, and spare tire! The piece that covers my fenderwell is what Im looking for, for all for tires!

Never had a truck that had wheel wheel covers, but then again I have never owned a cadilac or lincon truck. My point being I have owned alot of trucks and all that I have owned are like that on the rear suspension.

Its a truck, geeeez it isn't a car.

This question has come up several times. The rear wells have no covers and they are not an option. I have never come across an aftermarket product for this application.

With the open fender wells you do get mud etc. slung in there but it is easy to rinse out. With some kind of cover stuff would get back in behind it leading to rust, rot etc.--Jack

You could buy some rubber belting cut to the shape that pleases you and install on the inner fender wells. When I get my new truck it's one of the first things I'm going to do.

I know what you are talking about and my 96 had plastic/rubber liners to keep the crap from going all up under it. I am thinking about making something to go under there because I have already had to do a lot of cleaning after just a few hunting trips. Then again it is much easier to get up under there to do the cleaning.

Yeah, what this guy is asking for is the inner wheel-well guard that keeps junk from being thrown into the engine compartment. Every truck SHOULD have them, but lately Ford has tried to save a few pennies by not installing them at the factory.

The first thing I did on my new truck is purchase these. You can go to your Ford dealer and get them. Mine cost $14.92. It keeps mud and water from being thrown onto the radiator fan which then covers your entire engine in dirt and water spots. And no, a dirty engine is not easy to clean. Also, without the guards your exhaust manifolds won't last very long. Go to the dealer and order the wheel-well guards for both sides if you need them, and do it quick.

Did you do the install on your own? If so, how was it?

Do you have a part number?

The install takes about 4-6 seconds. I do have the part # for mine, but I do not believe they are the same as the other half-tons (i.e. F-150). Your dealer can look them up for you on the computer screen and show you a diagram so you know you are ordering what you want.

Thanks WXBOY, thats exactly what I was talking about. I just cant see paying 28 grand for a vehicle, to have mud and everything else thrown on top of the motor, and gas tank and everywhere else. Seems to me like the wrong way for Ford to try and save a few bucks though, because it looks cheap!!

If someone gets the part number for our 2004's, could you post the number for us and the install proceedure? If it's easy I'll certainly do it. I hate a dirty engine compartment. Thanks.

NO FLAPS for the 04, went to two dealers, looked at the fish diagram. nothing, nada, zip, we are going to have to make our own. anybody come up with somthing better let us know. 36K for a truck that lets all the road crap land on top of the motor is not right. I don't mind washing the motor but, hi pressure at these motors over time willscrew somthing up someday, fact.
