Unhappy no oil pressure...yipes...

i am in a pickle here guys...165,000 miles on the aerostar....started it the other morning it ran about 30 seconds before the junkie gauge showed pressure...was okay for a bit, drove about 8 miles and then i turned a corner and lost all pressure and it started making that noise that makes your blood turn cold...shut it down, let it sit a minute..restarted it...pressure was back, noise gone... got rpms up and it happened again...eased the little puppy home...went in and wept in my pillow... the next day i started it back up and the pressure never showed... a few days before this happened i was driving to a ball game with no heat...checked radiator after game and it was low...refilled and drove home....had a new distributor put in about 3,000 miles ago, half of the gears on the distributor were gone...not sure what happened to the gears that disappeared...changed oil, checked camshaft with scope and looked okay installed rebuilt dist... runs good just lost oil pressure and probably bearings by now... any ideas on where to start looking??? like maybe a car lot???

ummm are you leaking any oil??? try removing the oil pan and clearing the oil pump screen. and maybe it might be time for a rebuild or a "new" ford

Sorry to hear about that. If you drop the pan and find some bad things have happened I bet you could find a used 3.0 cheap since they used them in so many applications.

The oil pressure gauges on the rangers and aerostars are crap - not accurate at all. they will read right in the center until the oil pressure drops below 20 or something, then they will fall straight to the bottom. If your'e not low on oil, it sound like a bad piston ring, or a blown head gasket. Are you burning any oil?
